Dark artist Karen Hsiao might be a bit quacked. For the last two years she’s invited a parade of models to climb into a bathtub at her home in California, to pose with a rubber duck.

Now a book of those images, unsurprisingly called Rubber Duck, is about to fly on to shelves. According to Hsiao, the recurring motif of the rubber duck represents “a companion and comfort in our most intimate places of psychological development”, and the collection represents a human lifecycle.

Renowned twisted artist Gary Baseman describes the images as Hsiao cutting herself open and “spilling her guts, dirty desires and secrets, shooting these in front of the camera”. Take a gander…
