David Icke's Bridge of Love

David Icke, former goalkeeping prodigy, Grandstand presenter and self-styled doom-mongering Son of God, is now Britain's number one conspiracy theorist.

When you're convinced we live in a "global fascist Orwellian state" run by alien lifeforms, it seems only one publisher in the world will take you seriously.

If you happen to believe a popular celebrity is in fact an extraterrestrial reptile from another dimension, people don't tend to listen to you.

If you then add that these lizards have a sideline in ritual child-sacrifice and world domination, you'd have to be Philip K Dick to get a book deal. If - like David Icke - you enjoy writing massive novels about how you think this applies to George W Bush, Tony Blair, the British Royal Family, Kris Kristofferson, Boxcar Willie and many more (the beings they call 'the Illuminati'), then you've got as much chance of being published as Peter Sutcliffe has of being pardoned and given a lorry-driving job. Even we couldn't possibly print what he told us he thinks Madonna gets up to. No, short of fooling a tabloid newspaper into printing something they can't prove, your only other outlet is Bridge Of Love, the most fearless book publisher in the world. Or at least this dimension.

Bridge Of Love's back-catalogue includes the likes of the worryingly titled What If Everything You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong?, by Christine Maggiore, and Trance Formation Of America, by Cathy O'Brien - a "former mind-controlled slave of the US Government". However, it's Icke's books for which Bridge Of Love has become infamous. His just-released 13th work, Tales From The Time Loop ("that's a total of some 200 million words," he tells us), claims to be "the most comprehensive exposé of the global conspiracy ever written and all you need to know to be truly free".

"This is why my books are so long," he says. "If you just give people the story of what is going on in the world in summary, they'll just go 'That's ridiculous'... because it is so fantastically different from the movie version we see on the news. I put all this detail and research in to show I am not making it up."

Icke's position is that the reptilian secret agenda for global control has also taken over the mainstream media, thus conspiring to prevent him telling his truth to those in the wider world. At one point he did have a British book deal, but his contract was terminated upon receipt of his first draft - perhaps the most libellous document in history. So, in the early 90s, Icke took his words to Bridge Of Love, a little-known American company with a reputation for somewhat left-of-centre subject matter. It's through this publisher that he has since put out all of his books, from Alice In Wonderland And The World Trade Center Disaster - Why The Official Story Of 9/11 Is A Monumental Lie, to I Am Me, I Am Free (the most shocking element of which is perhaps the fully nude picture of David on the cover).

However, despite incredible allegations against some of the most high-profile names around, Icke himself has never been sued. "It's because they're scared the truth about them will emerge," he confides. "I'm a maverick, and the one thing the Illuminati can't handle is a maverick." Either that or they're just ignoring him, of course.
