In 1970, Mexico's Alejandro Jodorowsky directed the brilliantly bizarre and violent western El Topo, which told the tale of a gunfighter and his young nude son who exact revenge on a group of mercenaries in horrific fashion.

The film literally survived on reputation (it was a favourite of John Lennon and Yoko Ono), but has since been granted a long overdue cinema re-release from April 6, courtesy of Tartan Films, with exclusive presentations at BFI Southbank and in selected cinemas nationwide. (Cert 18, Consumer Advice: Contains strong bloody violence).
