Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G movie was quite pitiful, but this doesn't make the same mistake; rather than run away with the fictional life of Borat, this is basically an hour-and-a-half of Borat TV, with Cohen humiliating unwitting American morons on camera. The scenes are tenuously linked by a plot involving Borat searching for Pamela Anderson, whom he intends to marry, but don't worry about that; some of it is truly outrageous, with some jaw-dropping head-in-hands moments.
Borat's fear of Jews is amped up, and the centrepiece is surely the 10-minute naked hotel fight, but original director Todd Phillips allegedly jumped ship after the bit at the Virginia rodeo where Borat tells an irate crowd he thinks George W Bush should drink the blood of dead Iraqis. Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry Charles took over, and the riotous end product may not be a huge leap forward from what you've seen on TV, but I laughed throughout. Constantly. And that's what you want.
