to nu-metal-dance-fusionist butterflies.
Is the Cistm Konfliqt spelling a nod to Krautrock?
Takeshi (bassist/programmer): It's like a computer code, 'system conflict'.
We tried to make it more unusual by changing the spelling.
Kyono (vocalist): It represents what's going on in the world today - a lot of systems conflicting, it doesn't work out and they collide with each other. I don't really know about Krautrock.
The cover of Cistm Konfliqt shows a robot dog having its itsy-bitsy brain operated on by hydraulic arms. What the hell is that?
K: That's Pochi, one of the characters we use. Motokatsu (drummer/programmer): He's evolving, just as we are. This one's darker than before, and it's having its brain operated on. You see that in the video to our single 'Scary'. We had this dog before the stormtroopers in the white suits that we're famous for.
It's a bit like Sony's Aibo dog.
K: Yeah - but much scarier.
Does it piss you off when the UK press treats TMCM as a Japanese band, rather than simply a band?
K: It doesn't bother us; we are a Japanese band. As our music spreads and people start to accept us for what we are, magazines won't need to use sushi or Mount Fuji to describe us. Eventually. That's our goal. We're happy that people now recognise our music.
