Stand back. Engage your pupils. This could quite possibly be the best music video you'll see all summer. Especially if you're a fan of 28 Days Later sprinter zombies, LOUD music and lots and lots of fake dripping flesh covered in, um, strawberry jelly...
British upstart metallers Chickenhawk have already been receiving acclaim for their avant-garde, prog-inspired metal sounds. Now, thanks to photographer Danny North, they're making truly brilliant music videos, too. Shot over three weeks in Leeds, the video for 'I Hate This, Do You Like It?' is a blood-soaked classic. Check it out above, then read Bizarre's interview with guitarist Robert below...
INTERVIEW:
Whose idea was it to shoot a zombie music video?
It was Danny North, the director's. The studio heard about some of his mad ideas and wanted him to film some sort of low budget music video. Danny’s response was ‘if your going to do it, lets do it properly!’. Cue buckets of jam, jelly hundreds of extras and a lovely lovely time....
Did the band’s instruments not get ruined with all that fake splatter?
We spent a lot of time cleaning shit off all our amps: blood, bits of prosthetic skin. Mine and Asticks’ guitar had to be sent off to be looked at. Ryan hits the deck big style towards the end of the movie and as a result his bass was covered in all sorts....
Sprinter zombies or stumbling zombies?
Sprinter, clearly...actually maybe we should mention to Danny that we would now prefer our zombies not to run. No no no no no bad move....
What are the key tricks to making an effective zombie video?
F--k loads of jam, jelly, lots of friends and a very committed team And beer and food for extras helps too…
What are your definitive zombie scenes from movies?
Anything from Hard Rock Zombies, Hot Wax Zombies on Wheels, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed Up Zombies. And Porn of the Dead!
