This film is a scary slice of old school terror directed by Brian Pulido, creator of the Lady Death comicbook.
The demented tale unfolds like a supernatural version of The Texas
Chain Saw Massacre: two inseparable sisters (Clare Grant and Jillian
Murray) on a celebratory road trip to Arizona end up fighting for their
lives when they come across a haunted mining town inhabited by
murderous nut-jobs
and a devil-worshipping religious cult.
Drawing on his geek-boy knowledge of horror, Pulido shoots the film
with an edginess that breathes dread, hopelessness and danger into
every scene.
Grant and Murray play the human-prey siblings with a conviction rarely
seen in this kind of indie chiller, and they outshine the villains.
Topping the berserk billing is Bill Moseley, who played Otis in House
Of 1000 Corpses. Here he’s a psycho in a pig snout, and his every word
will make your skin crawl.
Tony Todd (Candyman)comes a close second as a totally deranged
preacher who commands a flock for Satan, which fittingly includes Randy
Blythe – the frontman of metal outfit Lamb of God.
The end result is a highly watchable example of low-budget horror that
pushes all of the right buttons and splatters them with claret.
