Rebecca Hall tries to debunk ghostly goings-on in this slow-burning period chiller

The Awakening

OUT: 11 November

Ghostly children are spotted lolling around the corridors of a boys’ boarding school, in this British horror flick staged in the aftermath of World War I. But when even when an über-sceptic rolls into town to debunk the supernatural claims, the spooky goings-on show no sign of stopping. The influences in this film are transparent, but it's directed with considerable aplomb and has a suitably pervasive atmosphere throughout.
