"With Easter coming up, why not a bit of themed animal exploitation from Indonesia?
It's worth bearing in mind how tough life is in countries like this, with no social welfare system to speak of. Most people end up scraping around for a living and animals and animal rights don't really come into the picture when you're living so low on the breadline.
This is a fairly disturbing picture. First thing you see is the pretty colours and then once you work out what they are. It's horrible. But quite common in this part of the world.
According to the seller, dying these birds with industrial chemicals helps to brighten up the local area and gives the local children some temporary fun. Mbak Yati paints the birds with her husband on the edge of a polluted Jakarta road.
The pictures were taken by John Little who up till fairly recently was living in Jakarta. He also photographed Tree Man for us."
