Over to Tom:
"This photograph is from a very unusual place in Mexico called The Island Of The Dolls. Now, obviously that's not the name you would most likely find it on a map but as a pet name it's pretty hard to beat.
You'll find this place in an area called Xochimilco, near Mexico City. It takes a extremely long boat trip to get there through all these canals, around eight hours on a dodgy boat most likely..
When you get there, you'll find the entire place populated by decaying, twisted and decapitated dolls. Kind of a last resting place for Barbie. The story goes that a bloke went a 'bit loco down in Acapulco' some years ago, became a hermit and started collecting all these dolls and bits of dolls that washed up on the shores of the island.
You'll even find a memorial dedicated to this chap's life in a building in the centre of the place. There are thousands of dolls strung up all over the island which make a quite disturbing and creepy image.
So we have this image, a close-up of one of the dolls faces jammed onto a tree branch. I find this really weird and affecting this image. The fact it's decapitated, well torn off, after all it's not a real baby, just plastic I have to keep telling myself. Fact is it's plain bizarre, end of.
The series was photographed by Sharon O'Dea, a photographer who found herself on the island with our very own Dr.Blackthorn for some reason..."
