Chessboxing is a demented sport combining the cerebral nature of chess and the brutal toe-to-toe action of boxing. Competitors engage in alternate rounds of speed chess and boxing until a winner is found either via knockout, checkmate, chess clock time or boxing points.
The upcoming issue of Bizarre features an in-depth look at the sport and it's growing UK popularity. But this weekend, in London, you can check out a knockout evening of chessboxing for yourself.
Taking place at The Boston Dome - near Tufnell Park, North London - the event will feature a heavyweight main event between British favourite Andy 'The Rock' Costello and Sergio 'The Phoenix' Leveque. The night includes two more bouts, interval entertainment and a full after party - which often ends with the crowd clambering into the ring for an impromptu dance off. Bizarrely entertaining, chessboxing is just one of those things you have to see to believe.
Doors open 7pm, advance tickets are from £12. Head here for more information.
