Today (24 August) marks the three-year annivsersary of the tragic and brutal attack that lead to, 20-year-old, Sophie Lancaster’s death.
To mark the anniversary artist, and Sophie's boyfriend, Rob Maltby, has designed a T-shirt to celebrate Sophie’s individuality and the “fantastical” nature of her style and personality. Rob’s used his creativity to design a T-shirt that celebrates “the weird “ and speaks out against prejudice and intolerance.
“The design of this T-shirt celebrates the fantastical, within oneself and others," he says. "It’s all about expanding the mind; just because something’s a bit weird, and doesn’t make much sense, doesn’t mean that it has no right to exist.”
The T-shirt has already been worn by a host of artists including Enter Shikari and The King Blues. Other famous faces, including stars from Shameless and Coronation Street, have also donned one, and more will be revealed today.
It's hoped that people will show support for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation by purchasing a T-shirt, and uploading pictures and videos of themselves wearing it to the charity's Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube.
All proceeds will go to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, set up by Sophie's mother, to fund raising awareness and encouraging tolerance and understanding towards subcultures.
T-shirts cost £15.99 and are available to buy at Backstreet-merch.com
