The third in our series of galleries of pictures from Bad Mags 2 by Tom Brinkmann, a book dedicated to the trashiest magazines of all time.
VIOLENT WORLD
While most tabloids had veered away from gore and debauched covers by the late '60s, a few publishers remained determined to 'brighten' up mag racks by depicting some of the most horrific images from around the globe.
Detective magazines may have been using suggestive imagery since the '20s, but wasn't until the late '60s that there was a seedy boom of lurid covers, featuring everything from decapitated heads to full-on bondage porn.
Titles such as Detective World, Weird Detective and Confidential Detective often featured stills from seedy flicks or models posing in vulnerable positions, often while stripped down and bound in ropes. And then, in the '70s, publisher Myron Fass 'ascended' to new levels of sleaze, with the likes of Mobs And Gangs, Homicide Detective, True Sex Crimes and Confidential Sex Report being "masterpieces on cheap paper" - according to the publisher himself!
Here we present a selection of some of the sleaziest crime mags from that period. Click on the gallery right to enlarge.
