Staysha Randall, 22, who performs in a variety of shows along Las Vegas Strip, attempted to break the previous world record of 3,100 piercings set by Tyson Turk in May 2010. But while she planned to take over 3,600 needles, she decided to call it a day after 3,200 as the pain was so intense.
The record attempt took place on 7 June at Inktoxicated Tattoos, Las Vegas.
“I’ve been into pain since I was a teen,” Staysha tells Bizarre. “I got into trouble at school for shoving 20 safety pins into my arm! I wasn’t depressed or a ‘cutter’ – I just thought piercings looked cool, and I love the way being pierced feels.”
The record attempt was the brainchild of pro piercer Bill ‘Danger’ Robinson, who got to know Staysha when he strung her up during her first flesh hook suspension. “Bill is the best and worst friend anyone could have,” laughs Staysha. “He’s the only person I’d trust to put me through that kind of torture, and he knows my pain threshold and how much I love to get poked.”
William started the record-breaking piercings at Staysha’s ankles and worked his way up her body, with needles eventually going all the way up her shoulders and across her right arm. But where did it hurt most? “My inner thighs were the worst,” Staysha says. “My lower ankles were almost as bad. I can take needles in my back and arms no problem, but after seven hours of piercing I was sobbing uncontrollably. It was the most painful experience I’ve had in my life.”
But despite her ordeal, Staysha is on the mend and looking for new challenges: “I’m healing great! After only three days my scabs were naturally falling off and the bruising was fading. There won’t be much scarring – only a bunch of little dots that will go away once I get my tan back. Now I want to find more world records to break – I’m hoping Bill and I can make history together!”
