Over to Tom:
"This is a shot of Pak Leo, a traffic warden from Indonesia. He's got the condition neurofibriosis or Elephant Man syndrome. What I like about the story is that he hasn't let a little thing like a ravaging skin disease get in the way of working 12 hours a day, he's the hardest working warden in Jakarta and let's face it would you argue with him? What makes this image is the expression of the motorbiker, a classic indeed.
The image was taken by a photographer based in Jakarta. The same photographer who uncovered Tree Man for us, in fact. We're always chatting about possibilities and he happened to mention this traffic warden he'd met.
So he went down and shot a set of pics and this one was by far the best, told the story in one image. We used it in Bizarre magazine a few years back to open our Photo Assault section. I'm pleased to pull it out of the Archive and show it in all its glory!"
