Weird World: How Bizarre Is...

Ice-T

Wrist slitting stalkers, time travel, and riding dogs with midgets. The Iceberg reveals all

I ate a Mongoose. I baited a trap with a peach, trapped it, then wolfed it down

Do you have any fetishes?

Not really. But I do like high heels.

Wearing them or on other people?

I don't wear them. But on women it's a turn-on.
I like that. Why? I don't know. I think it's something to do with submissiveness. They know they're sexy. And they're uncomfortable. It's about a woman saying she wants to be sexy at any cost. It's a turn-on. When a woman tells you she's got to wear comfortable shoes, she's not really trying to go far anywhere. She probably wants comfortable sex, too. I'm not into that. I want someone to be able to take it a bit further.

Would you let a woman curl your eyelashes or put make-up on you?

Nah, I'm not into that. The furthest I've ever gone was when I was growing up I let a girl braid my hair and that kind of stuff. When it gets to lipstick, I'll pass.

Have you ever had a relationship with a fan or a stalker?

I always try to stay clear of anybody who's too much of a fan. One time I was in Germany and had this girl drop on her knees and tell me, "Ice-T - there's you, and then there's God!" and immediately I told everybody else on the tour: Nobody fuck her. You know, because it's already beyond hope. You give them the T-shirt, you give them the pass and you make sure they get home safe. You don't do nothing stupid.

I think I'd fall for the "There's you, and then there's God" line.

Yeah, well, you've seen Fatal Attraction. When you tell the chick you've got to go, she'll sit on the toilet and cut her wrists. It's better to find someone that builds fascination in you. Fans are interesting. I think all guys have their groupie days where the girls are exciting, but that usually ends up turning out kinda weird and strange. You learn to get away from that eventually.

What's the strangest thing you've ever had in your mouth?

Once when I was in the army I ate a mongoose. I baited a trap with half a peach in the bottom of a can and used some wire like speaker wire and made a noose and captured it. We were starving. We cooked it and cooked it and cooked it and cooked it and eventually put hot sauce on it and ate it.

Was it like eating a shoe?

Yeah, but you're not looking for flavour; you don't want a moist mongoose.

Even the words 'moist' and 'mongoose' don't sound right together.

Never ask for your mongoose medium rare. You should cook the shit out of it.

What's the most violent thing you've done?

I've been in shoot-outs. I've exchanged gunfire with somebody and that's pretty violent. I won't say what the outcome of the shoot-out was, but I've had people shoot at me and shot back. That's pretty aggressive. I'm not a murderer; I've never been there.

How does being shot at affect you?

People choose that lifestyle. If you're selling drugs and you're playing those street games it's eventually going to happen. I don't do that no more. I don't like it. It's not a good life, you know, sleeping with guns and having people after you. It's not a smart move if you can avoid it. It looks good on TV, but in real life it's pretty trippy.

Do you worry that there are scores that haven't been settled?

You never really know, especially back in LA - people will come up to you and be like, "You know me," and I'm like, "Oh yeah, from where?" and you don't know what they're going to say.

Is it hard travelling round the world never knowing who people are when they come up to you?

Most of my dirt happened when I was in LA, so that's really the epicentre of my trauma. I'm not going to run into any of my people
in fucking London. I never stole a nickel from a person in London, you know? You know where your shit would be. A lot of girls know it. They go out and they have wild lifestyles and stuff and then they don't ever want to go back to their hometown.

What's the closest to death you've come?

I've been shot twice. I think the closest to death I ever came was when I was in a car accident and I hit the door and broke my pelvis and all my bones in the left side of my body - I was unconscious for two days.

How long were you in hospital for?

Ten weeks. They thought I was dead. The steering wheel broke off and I was thrown onto the passenger seat.

What happened?

I fell asleep at an intersection. You know how it is; you're coming home late at night, it's morning, you've been out all night and you stop at a light and fall asleep and just let your foot off the brake and just roll into the intersection.

What was it like waking up in hospital?

It was weird. It was trippy. It's a different zone. That was one of the changing points in my life because I realised that, if I had died,
that would've been the accumulation of everything I did in my life up to that point. I realised I wanted to live and do something with my life. At that point my life was shit.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I don't know. I think probably everybody would take the opportunity to become invisible and come back when they want. Not be like the invisible man and be totally invisible all the time. I want to be able to make myself invisible then make myself normal, because who the fuck wants to be in rags all the time?

That would be shit.

So I want to be able to turn invisible. Anything you can't afford you can just pick up. You can get on planes. You can do pretty much anything you want. I think there would be ramifications with time travel
and stuff like that.

We've all seen the Back To The Future trilogy. We know what can happen.

Yeah, a lot of weird shit.

What's the longest that you've ever gone without sleep?

Probably 48 hours.

Was that natural?

It was staying up that whole day, going out that whole night, and then having to work the next day and forcing myself to stay
up. After about 36 hours your body starts to zone out. You start to hallucinate and shit. Sleep deprivation is not a good thing. Your brain starts to play tricks on you. A lot of times when I act they make
me stay up really, really late, like 24 hours. It's really, really hard. You're trying to remember lines, but your brain just won't work. Movies are pretty brutal. You work under the gun. You have to work 14-16 hours a day every day. It's a lot of hard work. I can't say I'm tired because they have 200 people on the clock.

What's the weirdest animal you've ever ridden?

I've ridden a dog. Coco's [aka Nicole Austin, Ice's wife] nephew rides dogs. We've got two big Labradors and he rides them like horses.
He grabs them around the neck and rides.

That must be one of the only good things about

being a midget.

You can just jump on a dog and ride out!

If you had to choose between necrophilia, coprophilia and bestiality, which would you chose?

I think I'd have to go for necrophilia.

Really?

It depends on how dead they were and how long they'd been dead. The other one's fucking in shit, and I don't want to fuck no-one's dog. At least with necrophilia I'm still with a human. I'd choose a good-looking corpse if I absolutely had to choose. Motörhead used to have T-shirts that said "Dead Girls Don't Fight Back", but I'm not quite there yet.
