'Tauranga construction worker Bryce Wilson, 41, found the needle after biting into a chicken thigh.

He bought the chicken piece from Countdown in Greerton on Tuesday and cooked it the following night.

"I bit into the thigh and suddenly something went crunch. I thought, 'oh a bone'," he told Sunday News.

The "bone" turned out to be a 40mm sewing needle.'
