A German man lost more than his freedom after breaking into Berlin’s Technical Museum.
After fleeing from two security guards, the 35-year-old legged it over a fence, but snagged the ring on his right hand.
In order to free himself, the thief tore off the middle finger and got caught trying to recover his digit.
Sadly doctors couldn’t reattach the useless bandit’s finger, but he seems to have learnt his lesson – according to local police the German later admitted: “Breaking and entering doesn’t pay.”
