Born: September 18th 1961
Condition: Craniopagus conjoined twins
Did you know? Their condition made neurologists rethink assumptions about the human brain works.
Lori and Reba Schappell were originally named Lori and Dori but Dori changed her name to Reba to assert her individuality. They are the only living twins joined at the top of their head. Reba is shorter than Lori because she suffers from spina bifida and can’t walk.
They spent the first 24 years of their lives in a home but now live normal, independent lives, sharing an apartment with their paralysed pet Chihuahua, who uses a wheeled device designed by Reba to get about.
Reba is a country singer. She won the Los Angeles music award for Best New Country Artist in 1997 and has performed across the world. She has also won trophies for bowling. Lori works part-time in a hospital laundry and always pays to get into Reba’s gigs. Together they’ve acted in an episode of Nip/Tuck.
