Reader Richard Murray from Loughborough wrote to tell us about sent us this letter about his autopsy scar body mod. And he was nice enough to send us a video so you can all share his agony. Lovely! He writes
"I first saw stuff on branding and scarring on BMEZine a couple of years ago and liked the idea so I decided to have an autopsy scar done at Access All Areas in Nottingham.
The design was drawn on and then the skin was cut along the lines and removed completely. I had some numbing spray applied, and although I still felt the cutting, it stopped me from passing out. The sensations changed as the cutting moved down my body. One of the most painful places was when skin was being removed level with my nipples. The most painless area was on my sternum, but the oddest feeling that freaked me out the most was my stomach. With no bone supporting the skin there it felt like I was being sliced open.
The whole process took three hours and the healing involves being wrapped in cling film. I am also taking three baths a day to soften the scab so I can clean it and move freely.
My final verdict? I love it because I know it’s going to be great when it’s healed, but I hate it because I’m still in a bit of pain.
My family don’t know about this and won’t approve and my friends have mixed views about it. I don’t think I’ll be having anymore scarification until I forget about the pain of having this one. I’ll just have to wait for another moment of madness."
