Every year, Las Vegas is assaulted by an avalanche of the porn industry’s biggest stars for the Adult Video News (AVN) Awards. And this year, for the first time, Joe Public was invited to rub bodyparts with fake-breasted babes, chiselled hunks, and Ron Jeremy.

Instead of long, elegant gowns swishing up the red carpet, we were presented with skimpy see-through dresses, overstyled hair, and towering glass stripper heels. Rockstars Dave Navarro and Gene Simmons presented 116 awards for a whole host of categories, including Best Anal Scene, Most Outrageous Scene, Best Specialty Series in the Squirting category, and let us not forget Transsexual Performer Of The Year, which went to our favourite female-to-male, Buck Angel.

Interestingly, actor Dustin Diamond (Screech in Saved By The Bell) was in attendance, holding his head high after the ‘accidental’ leaking of a home video showing him and two ladies exchanging Dirty Sanchezs.

We also spied some other familiar characters, often seen in the pages of this magazine. Bizarre covergirl Tera Patrick and Mistress Rhiannon mingled with big names such as Erik Everhard, Vince Voyeur and, of course, Arnold Schwartzenpecker.

As the night descended into a blur of fake breasts and heavily applied lipgloss, it became shockingly clear that, for entertainment value, the AVN Awards beats the Oscars hands down.
