Celebrating with a Valentine’s Day ‘Sextacular’, this is Lucha VaVoom, where Mexican wrestling collides with vintage burlesque to create the wildest, real-life Technicolor Tex Avery cartoon in sparkly Spandex the world only dared to dream. Over three nights, thousands of people are leaving with faces beaming, minds permanently altered, though possibly a few bruises, too. For with midgets flying through the air, and 300lb luchadores crushing those fools that thought front-row seats were a great idea, it’s perilous to take your eyes from the stage or wrestling ring.
But Lucha VaVoom is more than men dressed as chickens grappling mini-wrestlers less than 4ft in stature. Deep inside the Mayan theatre, adorned with South American décor of the Ancients, the distant beat of jungle drums builds. With a mighty cry of “Ungawa!” four Amazonian beauties propel themselves with animal-skin fury onto the stage and dance to furious thunder. Don’t mess with these young savages – you might end up in their cooking pot!
And the thrills don’t simply stop there. The crowds wow at displays of dazzling aerialists, kinky hula-hooping and a bevy of burlesque beauties. Even Bizarre favourite Roky Roulette makes an appearance by bouncing into the arena on his pogo stick and promptly removing all his clothing.
With this perfectly balanced evening of sex, comedy and comicbook violence, the populace of the Earth deserves nothing less than a global tour. Everyone needs a little Lucha VaVoom in their life.
