When we heard that the biggest names in Lucha Libre wrestling were coming to the UK for a series of exclusive matches, we knew there was only one Bizarre contributor we could send along to report on the event.
Sadly, we had no idea that our shadowy writer Dr Blackthorn would take such a beating at the hands of Central America’s most notorious grapplers.
The Lucha Libre London shows took place in July at London’s Roundhouse venue, and attracted a huge crowd of Bizarre favourites including the guys from Lucha Britannia and film director Tim Burton (who was spotted in the crowd, cheering on the action with a midget by his side).
The day before the shows kicked off, we shipped Blackthorn off to interview the biggest stars, including El Hijo del Santo and Blue Demon Jnr – the David Beckham and Ronaldinho of the Mexican sporting scene.
But instead of incisive interviews with the Lucha stars that got under the skin of the world’s weirdest sport, all he came back with were loads of pictures of him getting beaten up by dwarves, and a bag of masks signed by his favourite stars.
